The Museum of National Unification is my first ever independent project!  The building originally erected in 1883 to host the Parliament of Eastern Roumelia had been turned into a public library branch in the 1950-ies. The project was a conversion of the library into a Museum, to celebrate the centenary of the Unification of Eastern Rou- melia with the Principality of Bulgaria. It included a total renovation of the interiors, minor façade work and staging of a new museum exhibition. The design and construction were done under a frenzied schedule in 1985. The enormous pressure by the Communist Party officials had made all renowned architects turn down the project, which in effect was my chance to have something build with just six months of professional practice after graduation from the Architectural University.
